LISLE, Illinois -- Melissa Weyand registered her second consecutive double-double but visiting Alverno College lost to Benedictine University, 3-1, Tuesday night inside the Rice Center in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference opener.

The host Eagles (5-5, 1-0 NACC) came away with a 25-21 win in the first set before the Inferno (1-9, 0-1) evened the match with a 25-23 second-set victory. However, Benedictine was too much in the final two sets and closed out the league opener with scores of 25-15 and 25-11.

The Eagles hit an impressive .444 in the fourth and limited Alverno to a -.036 attack percentage.

Weyand tallied a match-high 16 kills and added 10 digs for her double-double. Jessica Wewers connected for 10 kills on 20 attempts and Cailey Jeske added nine.

Danielle Schilawski tied for match-high honors with 14 digs while Karissa Minster led all setters with 21 assists.

After nine-straight road matches, the Inferno finally returns to Reiman Gymnasium Thursday night for a NACC contest against Rockford University.
