Alverno Drops Pair In Final Day Of UWP Tourney

PLATTEVILLE, Wisconsin -- Alverno College dropped its final two matches of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Tournament Saturday inside Williams Fieldhouse.

The Inferno was swept by Carleton College, 3-0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-12), before a 3-1 (24-26, 25-20, 25-17, 25-19) loss to Monmouth College (Illinois) in the tournament finale.

Versus the Knights (8-1), Cailey Jeske led Alverno six kills and Melissa Weyand added five and a pair of aces. Weyand also led the defense with 12 digs.

Jessica Wewers matched her career-high with 14 kills against the Scots (2-4) while Weyand added her season-best 12.

Sam Korn directed the offensive attack with a career-best 34 assists and Danielle Schilawski anchored the defense with her most digs this season, 20, in the four-set contest.

The rough nine-match road swing for the Inferno (1-8) comes to an end Tuesday night in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference opener at Benedictine University. First serve is set for 7 p.m. down in Lisle, Illinois.
