Inferno Falls To Sabres In 5

FOND DU LAC, Wis. -- Alverno College took Marian University to five sets, but fell to the host team, 3-2, Tuesday night in Sadoff Gymnasium.

Down 19-16 in the fourth, the Inferno (7-19, 0-9 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference) outscored the Sabres 9-2 to close out the set and force a fifth and deciding frame.

Marian (5-20, 3-6 NACC) scored two straight points for an 8-6 lead in the fifth and led the rest of the way for the match victory (25-13, 23-25, 25-14, 21-25, 15-8). The Sabres registered a .400 attack percentage in the fifth and did not commit an error in the set.

Melissa Weyand recorded her seventh double-double of the season with a team-high 16 kills and 18 digs, and added a pair of service aces for Alverno. Cailey Jeske aided the attack with 10 kills, while Jessica Wewers added nine.

Meranda Masse had a season-high 37 assists as the Inferno connected for 45 kills -- the team's most in over a month -- and added 10 digs for her second double-double of 2015.

Danielle Schilawski anchored the defense with a match-high 21 digs and Alyssa Reinke added 14, while each had two service aces.

Alverno closes out the home portion of its schedule Friday as it hosts Concordia University Wisconsin at 7 p.m. in Reiman Gymnasium.
