MILWAUKEE -- Alverno College came back from a 2-1 deficit to defeat visiting Silver Lake College 3-2 Monday night in Reiman Gymnasium in a nonconference match.
The Inferno (7-14) dominated the opening set 25-11 as the hosts hit an impressive .409 in the frame.
Yet the Lakers (7-16) took the next two sets, 25-21 and 25-19, as Alverno committed 17 attack errors in that span.
Down 10-6 in the fourth, the Inferno rallied and took an 18-12 lead en route to a 25-20 set victory to force a fifth and deciding set.
Again Alverno rallied, this time down 4-1, and scored seven straight points for an 8-4 lead and led the rest of the way for the 15-9 win to secure the match.
Jessica Wewers had seven block assists for a new Alverno single-match record, while the team's 18 tied the record set at Concordia University Chicago last season.
Weyand and Wewers led the attack with 16 and 11 kills, while Masse posted 31 assists in the victory.
Next up for the Inferno is another nonconference match at Moody Bible Institute Friday evening in Chicago.
