Defense Struggles In Loss To Sabercats

MILWAUKEE -- For the second time in four days, Maranatha Baptist University defeated Alverno College in three sets.

The visiting Sabercats (11-5) hit .318 en route to 25-12, 25-17 and 25-16 set wins over the host Inferno (6-12) which hit .107 in the nonconference match. It was a similar 3-0 result Saturday at the Finlandia Invitational Tournament.

Alverno's defense allowed 11 service aces by Maranatha, had just 22 digs and was whistled for four blocking errors in the loss.

Freshman Cailey Jeske led the Inferno attack with a season-best .357 attack percentage as she connected for a team-high eight kills.

Jessica Wewers added six kills and three blocks (one solo) for the hosts.

Alverno continues its current four-match homestand Friday versus Edgewood College at 7 p.m.
