MILWAUKEE -- After opening the day with a 3-0 sweep of host Mount Mary University, Alverno College rallied from two sets down to top Beloit College 3-2 Saturday afternoon in the Bloechl Center.
The two victories at the triangular improved the Inferno to 4-8 on the year, while the Buccaneers moved to 3-8 and the host Blue Angels to 1-6.
Alverno used a season-high 16 service aces -- tied for fourth most in school history -- and 39 kills to roll to the 25-21, 25-17, 25-18 sweep of Mount Mary.
Danielle Schilawski and Melissa Weyand served up five aces apiece, while Weyand also threw down a match-high 12 kills on 21 attempts. Jessica Wewers added 11 kills and a pair of blocks, Schilawski led the defense with 10 digs, and Meranda Masse temporarily matched her season-best with 31 assists.
Masse then registered 36 assists in the Inferno's comeback win over Beloit.
Against the Bucs, Alverno had just 14 kills and committed 15 attack errors through the first two sets -- 25-19 and 25-15 losses. Yet the offense come together nicely in the final three -- 25-16, 26-24 and 15-13 wins -- as Inferno totaled 34 kills and just 12 errors in the victorious frames.
Weyand kept her service game going with a match-high four aces, as Alverno tallied nine in the match.
Schilawski was one of three Inferno with double-digit digs as she recorded a season-high 26, Alyssa Reinke had 18 and Weyand had 10 to go along with her 12 kills for her second double-double of the season.
Wewers matched the team-high with 12 kills and Cailey Jeske added her season-best with nine.
The victory also gave Alverno the season series win against Beloit, 2-1.
The Inferno takes its winning streak to Aurora University Wednesday. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
