ROCKFORD, Ill. -- After opening the match with a pair of set victories, Alverno College dropped the final three to host Rockford College and lost 3-2 Thursday night in the Seaver Center in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference action.
The Inferno (2-8, 0-2 NACC) won both the first and the second by an identical score of 25-22, but then dropped the last three sets 25-17, 25-20, 16-14 as the Regents (5-5, 1-1) picked up their first league victory.
A season-high 33 attack errors and 17 service errors untimely led to Alverno's faltered attempts in the later part of the match despite serving up double-digit aces for the third time the season, led by Meranda Masse's four.
Masse put up a season-best 31 assists, and Melissa Weyand led the visitors with 11 kills. Defensively, Weyand added 14 digs for the sophomore's first career double-double.
The Inferno takes a break from league play as it travels to Mount Mary University for a triangular, also facing Beloit College for the third time this season.
