Inferno Drops A Pair At Viking Clash Tournament

CHICAGO -- Alverno College lost both Friday matches at the Viking Clash Tournament hosted by North Park University.

The Inferno (2-4) dropped the day's opening match to the host Vikings 3-0, and then fell to Manchester University 3-1.

In the 25-15, 25-18, 25-17 loss to North Park (4-4), Jessica Wewers and Melissa Weyand led Alverno's offense with seven and six kills, while Meranda Masse tallied 20 assists.

Wewers added two blocks on the defensive side of the net and Alyssa Reinke had a team-high nine digs.

The Inferno looked to bounce back against the Spartans (3-3) with a 25-23 opening-set win, but loss the next three 25-9, 25-12, 25-16.

Weyand nearly registered a double-double with 14 digs and a team-best nine kills and Masse had 17 assists. Defensively Reinke led the team with 16 digs, while Naomi Jordan and Cailey Jeske recorded four and three block assists apiece.

Alverno closes out the tournament with a pair of matches Saturday against North Central College (Ill.) at 10 a.m. and Nebraska Wesleyan University at 12 p.m.
