Alverno Finishes Tournament With 3-0 Win Over Rockford

BELOIT, Wis. -- After dropping the morning match of the Buc Blast Tournament to Illinois Institute of Technology, Alverno College defeated Rockford University to close out tournament play.

After a 25-14 opening-set victory, the Inferno (2-2) edged out the Regents (1-2) 25-22 and 25-23 in the second and third to earn the sweep.

Melissa Weyand led the Alverno attack with 13 kills and Jessica Wewers added 10, while Meranda Masse served up six aces and 26 assists.

Rookie Alyssa Reinke anchored the defense with 13 digs, Danielle Schilawski added 11 and Wewers had 10 for her first double-double of the season.

In the day's first match, the Scarlet Hawks (3-1) beat the Inferno in straight sets, 25-16, 25-17 and 25-19. Alverno connected for just 22 kills in the match and committed 11 receiving errors.

Weyand led the attack with eight kills and four service aces, while Schilawski had 10 digs to lead the defense.

Next action for the Inferno is at the Viking Clash Tournament hosted by North Park University in Chicago. Friday's matches are at 2 and 4 p.m., while Saturday's are at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
