Errors Plague Inferno In Loss To Warriors

MILWAUKEE -- Both teams entered today's match seeking their first conference win of the season, but host Wisconsin Lutheran College came out on top of Alverno College today in straight sets.

The Inferno fell to 9-16, 0-9 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference, while the Warriors picked up their first overall and NACC win of the season to improve to 1-18, 1-8 NACC.

Alverno dropped the first set 25-12, the second 25-15, and a close final set 26-24.

Up 23-20 in the third, Alverno looked to force a fourth set, but a pair of Inferno errors and a Warrior kill evened the set at 23-23. The Warriors earned a fourth-straight point on another Inferno attack error before a Jessica Wewers' kill tied the set again.

WLC went ahead 25-24 on an Inferno error and finished off the set and match with its 38th kill on the day.

Alverno's attack struggled for a second-straight match as the season-high 25 errors overwhelmed the team's 23 kills for a -.018 attack percentage.

Emily Ortner, Cali Trepp and Wewers led the Inferno with six, five and five kills, while Danielle Schilawski led all players with 13 digs for her fifth-straight match with double-digit digs.

Alverno closes out its home portion of the 2014 schedule on Wednesday versus Lakeland College. First serve is set for 7 p.m. in Reiman Gymnasium.
