Aurora Tops Alverno, 3-0

AURORA, Ill. -- Visiting Alverno College dropped a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match to host Aurora University, 3-0, Wednesday night in Thornton Gymnasium.

The Spartans (13-5, 1-1 NACC) topped the Inferno (7-8, 0-2 NACC) in straight sets, 25-12, 25-20 and 25-18.

Although the Alverno attack was a respectable .148 with 24 kills on 88 attacks, the Spartans hit .237 with 35 kills and added six service aces.

Emily Ortner led the Inferno offense with seven kills and Skye Kapinus added five.

Meranda Masse had team-highs with 12 assists and a pair of service aces, while Dakota Powless led Alverno's defense with 10 digs.

Alverno takes a break from league play for its final nonconference matches of the season at the Finlandia Invitational Tournament up in Hancock, Michigan this Saturday. The Inferno begins its three-match day versus host Finlandia University at 10 a.m. EDT.
