Inferno Drops Below .500 After Sweep By Stars

RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- Host Dominican University defeated Alverno College in straight sets, 25-10, 25-17 and 25-10, Saturday Night in Igini Sports Forum.

The Inferno (9-10, 1-6 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference) dropped below .500 for the first time in nearly a month as it suffered its third-straight defeat, while the Stars improved to 16-9 (5-1 NACC).

Alverno led the second set 10-7, but seven consecutive points by Dominican gave the host team the lead and momentum it would carry through the rest of the match.

Emily Ortner and Cali Trepp led Alverno with seven kills apiece while Ortner also led the defensive effort with a match-best 11 digs.

Alverno looks to snap its current skid at Concordia University Wisconsin on Friday. The Inferno faces the host Falcons at 4 p.m., followed by a match with Finlandia University at 6 p.m.
