Inferno Dropped By Raiders In 4 Sets

MILWAUKEE -- Alverno College was unable to overcome 36 attack errors and lost to Milwaukee School of Engineering 3-1 tonight in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match in Reiman Gymnasium.

The visiting Raiders (8-10, 2-3 NACC) connected for .208 of their attacks, 43 kills and just 13 errors, balanced evenly amongst five attackers.

Meanwhile, the Inferno (9-9, 1-5) had 41 kills -- led by Emily Ortner's 15 and Cali Trepp's 13 -- but hit just .030 of its attacks in its third-consecutive loss.

"We're almost there," said Alverno Head Coach Jimmy Muñoz. "It's a work in progress, but I think we're improving. These losses stink, we all hate them, but it's a long journey and we're on the right track."

MSOE opened the match with 25-19 and 25-23 set wins before the Inferno rallied for a 25-21 third-set win.

Alverno led 19-17 in the fourth, but the Raiders took eight of the final nine points, partly due to five Inferno attack errors for the 25-20 victory in the final frame.

Trepp and Ortner both collected double-doubles with 24 and 18 digs, while Danielle Schilawski added 21 for the Inferno defense.

Meranda Masse posted 30 assists and tied Genevieve Bauman with a match-high four aces for Alverno, which tallied 13 aces on the night.

Alverno returns to NACC action tomorrow night at Dominican University. First serve with the Stars is 6 p.m. in River Forest, Ill.
