MILWAUKEE -- Alverno College was unable to challenge the defending Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference co-champs, Edgewood College, and lost to the visiting Eagles in three sets in the first of two homecoming-weekend matches.
"We dealt with a little adversity today," Alverno Head Coach Jimmy Muñoz said. "We had an injury and anther gone for a family wedding, so we had a couple people in some different spots tonight. But I told the team 'the volleyball doesn't change, you still have to pass, set, hit.' I'm proud of the ladies for competing throughout the match."
The Eagles (16-6, 3-0 NACC) never trailed in either the first or second sets and took a 2-0 lead after 25-13 and 25-17 wins. The Inferno (9-7, 1-3) took a brief 3-2 lead in the third, but the Eagles rallied for 15 of the next 17 points and rolled to a 25-12 third-set win to seal the match.
"Hats off to Edgewood, they're a darn good team," added Muñoz.
The Inferno hosts its second match on homecoming weekend Saturday morning versus Marian University in another NACC contest. First serve is set for 11 a.m. in Reiman Gymnasium, followed by an Inferno Soccer game at 2 p.m. on Alverno Field against Rockford University.
