Pair Of Top 25 Teams On Final Week's Docket

MILWAUKEE -- The Alverno College volleyball team ends its 2012 season with a Northern Athletics Conference match on Wednesday and three matches in the Halloween Invite hosted by Washington University-St. Louis this weekend.

The Inferno (3-21, 0-11 NAC) heads to River Forest, Ill., to face host Concordia University Chicago (4-17, 2-9 NAC) on Wednesday, 7 p.m., in the final conference match of the year. The Cougars have lost nine-straight matches, two less than the Inferno's current streak of 11 straight.

Concordia swept the Inferno, 3-0, in last season's meeting and owns the all-time series record, 13-0.

Alverno then faces its toughest competition of the season at the Halloween Invite in St. Louis, facing three teams for the first time in the program's history.

The Inferno opens play on Friday, 3 p.m., versus host Washington (24-2 overall). The Bears, ranked No. 1 in the most recent AVCA Coaches' Poll, have won three-straight matches, while both of their losses this season have only come at the hands of fellow Top 25 teams.

Following the opening match, the Inferno will take on St. Ambrose University at 5:15 p.m. The Queen Bees are 15-10 overall, and are 3-3 in their last six matches.

The season will come to a close on Saturday as the Inferno takes on No. 24 Juniata College at 11 a.m. The Eagles are 20-10 overall on the season, and 6-4 in their last 10.
