MILWAUKEE -- Alverno College dropped three-straight sets to visiting Dominican University tonight in a Northern Athletics Conference match in Reiman Gymnasium.
The Stars (14-2, 4-0 NAC) won their 12th-consecutive match while the host Inferno (3-12, 0-3 NAC) lost its second in a row.
The defending NAC champions breezed through the first two sets, 25-10 and 25-9, before the Inferno started to put up a fight in the third and final set. Alverno cut the lead to 16-13 on one of Dominican's few (eight) attack errors of the night, but the Stars answered with a 9-2 run for the 25-15 final.
Three Inferno players -- Chelsea Gulbronson, Emma Ortner and Cali Trepp -- tallied a team-high four kills apiece, but Gulbronson was the only Alverno player with a positive attack percentage as she hit .273 on the night.
The Stars ended the night with a .300 attack percentage on 29 kills while the Inferno had just 17 kills and 26 attack errors.
Defensively Reagan Owen led the Inferno with six digs and chipped in a game-high 14 assists.
Alverno returns to conference play on Friday at Milwaukee School of Engineering at 7 p.m.
