Inferno Opens Play At Pacific Coast Classic

MILWAUKEE -- The Alverno College women's volleyball team opens the 2012 season at the Pacific Coast Classic in southern California this holiday weekend. The Inferno will play a pair of matches on Friday, Aug. 31, and two more on Saturday, Sept. 1.

Three of the four opponents are new to the Inferno (4-28 last season), but a familiar foe will be first on the docket. Northland College will face the Inferno at 12:30 p.m. PDT for the season opener. The Inferno are 1-2 all-time versus the LumberJills (1-25), but recorded a victory over its fellow Wisconsin college at last year's Inferno Classic on opening weekend.

Later on Friday Alverno will take on Polytechnic Institute of New York University (23-15) at 5 p.m. On Saturday, the Inferno faces hosts Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (7-19) at 9 a.m. and concludes play against Whittier College (13-19) at 1:30 p.m.

Alverno will play all four matches at Pomona-Pitzer's Voelkel Gymnasium inside the Rains Center on the campus of Pomona College. Live coverage will be available for Saturday's morning match against the hosts Sagehens via http://livestats.prestosports.com/pomona.
