MILWAUKEE – On Tuesday, the Alverno tennis team announced its slate of Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference matchups for the upcoming fall 2019 season.
Last season the Inferno picked up two wins in its array of conference matchups and will look to add to that total under second year head coach Fabio Perasso. All of this season's home matches will be played at the McKinley Park Tennis Courts on Lincoln Memorial Drive in the heart of Milwaukee.
The lighted six-court complex is within a racquet swing of scenic Lake Michigan on Milwaukee's east side and features ample parking as part of the Milwaukee Parks Department.
The conference schedule will begin on Wednesday, September 4, when the Inferno play host to the Lakeland Muskies for a 4 p.m. start at McKinley Park. Last season the Inferno took one singles match from the Muskies, while playing shorthanded early in the season.
The league slate continues with Alverno's first home dual matches, beginning with Edgewood at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 14, followed by a Milwaukee-bout with MSOE at 2 p.m. the same afternoon. Edgewood was tops in the NACC in 2018-19 and earned the league's bid to the NCAA Division III Tennis Championship, while MSOE also earned a bid to postseason play.
Another weekday matchup follows as the Inferno will visit local foe Wisconsin Lutheran for their first road conference matchup of 2019 on Tuesday, September 14. No time has been announced by the Warriors at the time of this release.
Four days later Alverno visits Marian for a morning session in Fond du Lac, before the team travels to Mequon for another league test against Concordia Wisconsin.
The following Saturday, the month of October kicks off with the final home conference contests of 2019 as the Inferno play host to both Dominican at 10 a.m. followed by a home tussle with Concordia Chicago at 2 p.m. Last season the Inferno knocked off both the Stars and the Cougars, and will look to keep its winning ways against their Illinois foes.
The final weekend of the conference schedule will pit the Inferno against Illinois Tech on Saturday, October 5.
The top six teams in the conference standings will qualify for the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Championship which takes place in the spring of 2020. The first round begins on April 27 before the semifinals and championship take place on the same afternoon on Sunday, May 3.
