Tennis Falls to Wisconsin Lutheran, 5-1, Match Shortened Due to Rain

MILWAUKEE – The Alverno tennis team's home opener on Thursday evening was stopped after six decisions due to rain against Wisconsin Lutheran at the McKinley Park Tennis Courts. With the Warriors leading by a 5-1 score the match is considered official and the remainder will not be made up for conference purposes.

Alverno got off to a strong start in the match winning the first singles by an 8-5 score as senior Dani Hood and junior Michelle Alexander scored the victory in the opening doubles.

In the second doubles senior Lia Hutchins and freshman Aaliyah McAfee were able to take one game in an 8-1 loss.

Two singles matches were completed as McAfee contested in the fourth singles but fell by the scores of 6-1, 6-2. Freshman Ashley Boston also dropped the fifth singles bout by scores of 6-0, 6-1.

The remaining three singles matches were suspended and not finished due to the rain.

In the top flight of singles competition Alexander dropped the opening set 6-3, but currently leads 1-0 in the second set. Hutchins currently holds a 4-3 lead in the opening set; while Hood fell in her opening set by a 6-2 score but the second set is even at three at the time the rain forced play to stop.

Alverno (0-7, 0-3) will have a busy weekend of competition ahead of them beginning at the McKinley Park Tennis Courts on Saturday against Marian at 10 a.m., followed by Lakeland at 2 p.m.
