The 2017-18 Alverno College tennis team looks to build on the success of the last three seasons and eyes a fourth consecutive trip to the postseason.

The Inferno's new head coach, Will East, works with five returners and a pair of newcomers on a squad that has broken the school's wins record each of the last three seasons with 10, 11 and 12 wins respectively.

"It's going to be a good season, it's going to be a tough one," said East about the upcoming year. "We lost a lot of players last year and finished third in conference. I want to try and push further, but it's going to be tough, as it's more of a rebuild year, but I think we can do it."

Alverno has also qualified for the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Women's Tennis Tournament for three straight seasons and included a pair of semifinal runs the past two years. Yet the team lost four upperclassmen from last year's roster that was 12-13, 7-2 in NACC play.

Sophomore Michelle Alexander and junior Lia Hutchins have the bulk of the experience of the five returners.

Alexander registered a 12-11 singles record and 11-14 doubles record in her rookie campaign while Hutchins was 8-12 and 9-14.

The team opens play at home with a pair of NACC duals Saturday, Sept. 2 versus Edgewood College at 9 a.m. and Marian University at 2 p.m.
