MADISON, Wisconsin -- Third-seeded Alverno College lost to second-seeded Edgewood College, 5-0, in a semifinal of the 2017 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Women's Tennis Tournament Sunday afternoon at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
Despite a pair of competitive matches in doubles play, the Inferno trailed to the Eagles, 3-0.
Both by scores of 8-5, Brooke McBain and Laeren Yates lost the No. 1 match and Michelle Alexander and Lia Hutchins lost the No. 2 contest. Lorinn Knoblauch and Alexandria Malicki also came up short in No. 3 doubles, 8-1.
Edgewood (13-13) then captured wins in the No. 5 and 6 singles matches over Maria Ochoa and Knoblauch to clinch the victory and move on to face top-seeded Concordia University Wisconsin in the NACC Tournament Final.
McBain was leading the No. 1 singles match 6-4, 2-2 but the semifinal was clinched so the No. 1, 2, 3 and 4 matches were halted.
Yates finishes her career with 33 doubles wins, the most in program history, as well as the second-most singles wins at 45. McBain's 15 doubles wins this season breaks the single-season Alverno record.
The Inferno finishes the season with a 12-13 overall record for the most wins in school history after 11 last season and 10 the year prior.
