STEVENS POINT, Wisconsin -- Alverno College dropped a pair of matches Saturday afternoon at University Courts up in Stevens Point.

The Inferno (11-11) lost its first match to Wartburg College, 8-1, before it lost the second contest to host University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, also by an 8-1 score.

Brooke McBain was the only Alverno player to come away with a victory in the opening dual as she won the No. 1 singles match 6-2, 2-6, 10-4 over the Knights' Alex Peterson.

Laeren Yates took Lauren O'Brian to a third and deciding set but lost at No. 2 singles, 1-6, 6-3, 10-7.

The senior duo also had the closest doubles match but fell 8-6 at No. 1.

Michelle Alexander and Lia Hutchins teamed up at No. 2 doubles for the Inferno's lone point against the host Pointers as the defeated Frances Weiss and Elizabeth Wilichowski 8-2.

McBain and Alexander both went the distance in singles play but lost the No. 1 match 4-6, 6-0, 10-4 to Danielle Buckley and the No. 3 match 6-7 (5), 6-2, 10-6 to Abbey Johnson.

Wartburg (7-11) topped UW-Stevens Point (5-11) by a score of 9-0 in the triangular's other match.

Alverno closes out the regular season with a pair of home duals versus North Park University and Beloit College Sunday, April 30.
