Alverno Clinches Spot In NACC Tournament

MILWAUKEE -- Alverno College clinched a spot in the 2017 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Women's Tennis Tournament with a 9-0 victory over visiting Wisconsin Lutheran College Thursday evening at Helfaer Tennis Stadium.

The Inferno got off to a quick 3-0 lead with 8-0, 8-1 and 8-6 wins in doubles play. Asia Butler-Yeo and Brooke McBain won at No.1, Michelle Alexander and Laeren Yates at No. 2 and Makayla Butler and Libby Kent at No. 3.

Alverno then took down the Warriors (4-7, 2-5 NACC) in straight sets in all six singles matches.

Butler-Yeo won 6-3, 6-0 at No.1, McBain 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2, Alexander 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3, Yates 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4, Lia Hutchins 6-3, 6-4 at No. 5 and Kent completed the sweep 7-5, 6-3 at No. 6.

"I'm excited to be headed back to the conference tournament this spring," said Alverno Head Coach Erin Felber. "Faith, fight, focus, finish has been our motto all along and it will continue to be as the journey continues this season through the tournament."

The Inferno (9-6, 5-2 NACC) will make its third consecutive trip to the conference tourney and can clinch the program's first home contest in the postseason with a pair of wins this Saturday at Aurora University and Dominican University in the fall finale.
