GLENDALE, Wisconsin -- Host Alverno College won a pair of nonconference dual matches Sunday inside the North Shore-Elite Sports Club.
The Inferno improved to 8-6 overall with a 6-0 victory over Mills College (0-2) and a 5-2 win over Westminster College of Missouri (2-1).
"It was so fun to play two teams from different states," Alverno Head Coach Erin Felber said. "Such a great experience for all the teams involved despite the weather not cooperating."
The day got off to a late start due to inclement weather which forced the contests indoors.
Alverno rolled the Cyclones in the morning match and started play with three doubles victories. Asia Butler-Yeo and Brooke McBain took the No. 1 match, 8-0, Michelle Alexander and Laeren Yates No. 2, 8-3, and Makayla Butler and Lia Hutchins No. 3, 8-1.
Butler-Yeo (6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles), McBain (6-1, 6-2, at No. 2) and Libby Kent (6-1, 6-4 at No. 6) all won in singles action which secured the team win and the squad's fifth sweep of the season. The three other singles matches were unfinished.
The Inferno nearly started with a 3-0 lead against the Blue Jays, but Alexander and Yates lost the No. 2 doubles contest 9-8 (3) on a tiebreaker. Butler-Yeo and McBain were victorious at No. 1, 8-2, while Butler and Hutchins captured a win at No. 3, 8-6.
Butler-Yeo won again at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-2, and Yates earned a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4 before Alexander's 7-5, 6-3 win clinched the team triumph.
After this short break from league play, Alverno returns to Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference action versus Wisconsin Lutheran College Thursday evening at Greenfield H.S.
