Inferno Clips Red Hawks For Season's First Win

GLENDALE, Wisconsin -- Alverno College picked up the team's first win of the season with a 9-0 sweep of visiting Ripon College Saturday afternoon to earn a split on the day.

The Inferno (1-2) dropped the morning match, 7-2, to visiting Lake Forest College.

Versus the Foresters (2-0), Asia Butler-Yeo and Brook McBain teamed up at No. 1 doubles to capture Alverno's first point with an 8-5 win. Makayla Butler and Lia Hutchins nearly won at No. 3 doubles yet lost a tight match, 9-7.

Hutchins lost another tight match in singles play, a 2-6, 7-6 (7), 10-1, in the only three-set contest in the dual. Butler-Yeo earned the other Inferno point with a 6-1, 6-1 straight-set win at No. 1 singles.

Alverno had little trouble with the Red Hawks (0-2) in the afternoon with 8-2, 8-2 and 8-1 wins in doubles play, followed by all straight-set wins in singles action.

Butler-Yeo took No. 1 singles (6-1, 6-1), McBain No. 2 (6-2, 6-0), Michelle Alexander No. 3 (6-3, 7-5), Laeren Yates No. 4 (6-0, 6-0), Butler No. 5 (6-3, 6-1) and Libby Kent No. 6 (6-3, 6-1).

Next up is the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference opener at Edgewood College tomorrow at 10 a.m., followed by a nonconference neutral-site match against Loras College at 1 p.m.
