MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Alverno soccer team hosted the Concordia Chicago Cougars on Wednesday afternoon on the Alverno Soccer Field. The Inferno fell by a 7-1 score.
Tallying the lone goal for the Inferno was freshman Shaye Wolfe, who placed a free kick off the bottom of the crossbar and into the goal in the final seconds of regulation.
Alverno also got 26 saves out of senior goalkeeper Allison Weick, for her second highest total of both the season and her career.
The match was even on the scoreboard through the first 40 minutes of play before the Cougars broke through to make the score 1-0. Concordia Chicago added another goal late in the period to take a 2-0 lead into the halftime break.
The Cougars scored the next five goals, including their sixth and seventh strikes in a span of 42 seconds with just 11 minutes to go in regulation.
Wolfe tallied the team's lone shot and goal of the match with 22 seconds left in regulation to break the shutout. For Wolfe, it was her eighth goal of the season.
Alverno (3-6, 0-3 NACC) will not have to travel far for its next match, as the Inferno will take on MSOE on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. on Viets Field. The Inferno turn right back to a home match against Mount Mary on Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m.
