Wolfe’s Six Points Lead Inferno to Shutout Win over Eureka, 7-0

EUREKA, Ill. – The Alverno soccer team traveled to Illinois on Friday night for a non-conference matchup with the Eureka Red Devils and downed its host by a 7-0 score.

Freshman Shaye Wolfe had a hand in six of the team's seven tallies on the night with four goals and also added a pair of assists. Junior Shoua Vang also had a multi-point night with one goal and two assists.

Freshmen Ali Sowieja and Ziri Hernandez-Bustos added goals on the night, while senior Delainey Smith, sophomore Kayla Kunz, and rookie Angela Chobanian all had helpers in the effort.

In goal senior Allison Weick had the win as she also picked up the shutout without having to make a stop.

Alverno outshot its host by a 47-1 margin, with 30 of its 47 shots coming on target.

The Inferno got off to a quick start as the team began the night's shooting spree with three shots in the first 10 minutes. On the team's fourth shot Wolfe picked up her first goal of the night after a feed from Smith to put Alverno up 1-0.

As the first period progressed Alverno scored again in the 35th minute as Wolfe scored off a pass from Kunz as the Inferno took a 2-0 lead into the halftime break.

As the rain continued throughout the course of the match, so too did the Alverno offense. The Inferno scored again in the 53rd minute as Hernandez collected the first goal of her career on an assist by Wolfe.

Wolfe added two more goals in a two-minute span as both goals were assisted by Vang as Alverno advanced by a 5-0 score. Wolfe's goal-scoring success finally came to a close with her fourth of the match in the 76th minute on an assist by Chobanian.

In the final five minutes Wolfe capped off her night completely with her sixth point and second assist of the night as she fed Vang for the team's seventh and final goal at the 86:34 mark of the contest.

Alverno (2-0) will be back in action this Sunday, when the team travels to Monmouth (Ill.) for another non-conference matchup, which is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
