Inferno Fall in Final Minutes

MILWAUKEE, WIS.--The Alverno College soccer team fell in close contest to Mount Mary University Saturday afternoon.

Neither team could gain the advantage early in the first half. In the 20th minute Mount Mary found the back of the net first off a corner kick into the penalty area. Alverno responded as Andrea Binkley scored her first goal of the season to tie the game at one.

Alverno looked to capitalize in the second half as they peppered the Mount Mary keeper with shots. Unfortunately, Mount Mary scored off a weak foot goal that was just out of the reach of Allison Weick. Another goal in the 83rd minute sealed the game for Mount Mary.

The Inferno outshot the Blue Angels on the day 15-5. Shoua Vang, Andrea Binkley, Lauren Fischer and Crystal Prieto all finished the match with three shots on goal. The strong Inferno defense stood tall minus the three goals as Allison Weick made two saves.

Alverno College returns to the pitch next Wednesday as they welcome Benedictine University to Alverno Soccer Field with a start time set for 3 p.m.
