Golf Quartet Sets Season-Best Scores in 2019 Season Finale

WAUWATOSA, Wis. – The Alverno golf team closed out the 2019 season on Friday afternoon by travelling to take on the Mount Mary Blue Angels at Currie Park Golf Course in suburban Milwaukee.

All four of Alverno's golfers posted season-best scores on the afternoon but it was just shy of knocking off the Blue Angels as Mount Mary came away with the team victory by a 439-456 score.

Leading the way for Alverno was junior Brittney Hondel, who finished third individually while posting a score of 104 on the afternoon just two strokes off the lead. Junior Kaitlynn Schmick also posted a season-best score and was four shy of her career-best score as she carded a 113 to finished fourth on the leaderboard.

Freshman Hannah Muszynski registered a 118 for a +47 along the par 71 course, while junior Lauren Greif recorded a 121 as she took nine strokes off of her best score on the season.

At the turn after nine Hondel led all Inferno golfers with a 54 through the first nine, which included a par on five and a bogey on eight. Muszynski was second through the first half of the course for Alverno as she had a 58 through the first par 36 of the course, as she tallied a par on the par-4 sixth hole to go along with a bogey the hole prior on the par-3 fifth hold.

Through the first nine Schmick carded a 60 which included a par on the fifth and a bogey on the eighth. Greif had one bogey on the opening nine holes with that coming on the par-3 fifth.

On the back-nine, Hondel had four bogeys on the last six holes on the 13th, 15th, 17th, and 18th as she carded a 50 on the back nine to give her a 104 on the weekend. Schmick added a 53 on her back nine, which included one par on the 13th while also adding three bogeys on the 12th, 17th, and 18th.

Greif posted a 59 on the back nine, including two bogeys on the final two holes to close out her back nine with a 59 for a round score of 121. Muszynski added a 60 to her front-nine score of 58 as she also finished her round with two bogeys on the final two holes of the day.

Alverno closes its 2019 season having competed in seven rounds of golf, with all four of its returning roster improving to its best scores in the final match of the year. Senior Sam Korn closes her career having competed in six rounds, and posting a season-best score of 126, with that coming in the final round of the 2019 NACC Championships at Meadowbrook Country Club in Racine.
