RACINE, Wis. – The 2018 Alverno golf season came to a close this past weekend at the 2018 NACC Championship hosted by Lakeland College at Meadowbrook Country Club.
The Inferno finished the weekend in seventh position of the seven teams contesting for the championship, and registered a score of 1,427; a combined +551 over par. The league championship was won by Aurora, who coasted to the title with a score of 1,002, which was +126 over par.
The three-day, three-round event featured along the scenic par 73 course, was a combined 17,506 yards including a weekend-high 5,846 yards on Friday in the opening round.
The Inferno finished the first day of competition in sixth place, just two strokes ahead of Marian. That lead over the Sabres expanded to a five stroke lead following Saturday's round before Marian was able to overtake Alverno on the final day, pushing the Inferno down to seventh place.
Mathies completed her weekend in 22nd position with a +111 including a weekend-best 103 on Friday. Sulikowksi shot a +129 to finish 27th on the final leaderboard with a weekend-best 106 on Saturday. Schmick carded a three-day best 113 on Friday as she took 29th individually with a +138; while Chapnick had a weekend-best 128 on Sunday to finish her weekend score with a +173 as she took 32nd on the leaderboard.
Mathies carded a 103 on Friday, followed by a 109 on Saturday and a 118 on Sunday. On Friday she collected a pair of pars on the par-3 11th as well as a par on the par-5 13th; she also had eight single bogeys on the round. Saturday started strong with a pair of pars on the first two holes and also added four bogeys. The final day saw the senior record one par on the par-4 seventh hole and also added a pair of bogeys to conclude her weekend at +111.
Sulikowski shot a 123 on the opening round including two bogeys on the back nine. She tallied her best round of the weekend on Saturday with a 106 as she registered 10 bogeys with six of those coming on the back nine as she shot a 51 on the final nine holes during the second round. On Sunday she carded her first par of the weekend on the opening hole before adding one single bogey on the 17th for a 119 on the round.
In total Schmick had her best round with a 113 on Friday, which included a par on the par-4 16th hole, she also notched a pair of bogeys on the front nine before adding two more on the back nine. The second round featured two single bogeys and seven double bogeys for the 119. The third round was a 125 for Schmick with her best shot for last as she carded a par on the par-5 18th, following a round that featured three bogeys and five double bogeys.
Chapnick collected a 129 on Friday before trimming one shot of that round during the third go-around on Sunday. The opening round featured four double bogeys, before she scored the team's lone birdie of the weekend on the second hole to open action on Saturday. Sunday saw Chapnick register a weekend-best 128, which included a 62 on the back nine. She had a par on the 18th to go along with two bogeys and three double bogeys.
