Returning for his 11th season on the sideline with the Alverno basketball team, Jim Oppermann has been a staple with the program since the 2009-10 season.
Opperman previously served as the college's Senior Vice President for Finance & Management Services, prior to his retirement from the role before the 2018-19 academic year.
During his initial 10-years on the sideline with the program, Oppermann has helped Alverno to seven of its eight most successful seasons in program history, including the program record-setting 19-win season in 2013-14. During the record-setting campaign, the Inferno reached the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Finals following overtime victories in the opening round against MSOE (64-61) and in the semifinals against Concordia Wisconsin (74-64).
Throughout his stay, Oppermann has helped develop dozens of student-athletes including 14 all-conference players, which includes five All-Conference First Team selections.
In his first season with the team, he helped lead the team to its first-ever bid to the conference tournament, while leading the team to double-digit wins for just the second time in the program's young history.
Oppermann played basketball collegiately at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. While playing for the Norse, he amassed 221 career assists, which still ranks eighth on the all-time list. In October of 2012, he received the Luther College Distinguished Service Award from his Alma Mater, where he received his undergraduate degree in Accounting. He later attended the University of Wisconsin, where he earned his Master's Degree in Business Management.
