Basketball Unable to Keep Up with Wisconsin Lutheran

MILWAUKEE – The Alverno basketball team played its final weeknight game of the 2018-19 season on Wednesday, taking on league favorite Wisconsin Lutheran. The Inferno fell to the Warriors by the score of 69-37.

Leading the way offensively for Alverno was senior Justice Hawkins, who tallied 11 points on a team-best five field goals. Senior Dani Hood notched 10 points, while senior Mackenzie Mathies connected on the team's lone three-pointer of the night as she finished the game with seven points. Senior Karli Selear added five points, all from the free throw line, as senior Kendra Patterson rounded out the starting lineup with four points.

Sophomore Sara Redlin played 21 minutes, while freshman Antionette Powell made her second appearance of the season and played three minutes.

Selear led Alverno with seven rebounds and four assists, while Patterson tallied six boards followed by Hood with five caroms. Mathies and Selear were tied for the team lead with two steals apiece while both Hawkins and Hood picked up one block each on the night.

Alverno trailed 43-15 at halftime, and fell behind 62-22 heading into the fourth quarter. The Inferno did outscore their hosts by a 15-7 margin in the final stanza as Hood led the way with eight points while Mathies added four points and Hawkins tallied three.

Alverno (6-18, 5-14 NACC) will head back on the road to wrap up the campaign this Saturday, when the team visits Lakeland for a 6 p.m. start in Plymouth, Wis.
