MILWAUKEE – The Alverno basketball team has announced its schedule for the upcoming 2018-19 season with a slate of 25 contests including 12 at home inside Reiman Gymnasium.
First-year head coach Nancy Osborne will lead the Inferno following a stint as an assistant coach with the program. The Inferno were selected to finish in 11th position of the 13 teams that comprise the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.
Alverno opens the 2018-19 campaign at home on Thursday, November 15, when the Inferno host non-conference foe Mount Mary for a 7 p.m. tip. The second and final game of November comes on the Friday after Thanksgiving on the 23rd with a 7 p.m. start against Crown.
The month of December will kick off with the first conference matchup of the season as the Inferno will battle with league-newcomer Illinois Tech for a 2 p.m. start in Chicago on December 1. The team will take a shorter trip for its next match with a visit to MSOE on Tuesday, December 4.
In arguably its most challenging home game of the season the Inferno will host defending league champion and conference favorite Wisconsin Lutheran on Saturday, December 8.
Alverno will have one more home game in 2018 as the team hosts Aurora on December 18, following a pair of road games against Maranatha (December 10), and Marian (December 15). The year will come to a close with a trip to the Loras Tournament in Dubuque, Iowa, as the Inferno will take on host Loras on December 28, following by a neutral tilt with Simpson a day later.
As the calendar turns to January, the Inferno will begin with three of its first four games out of the chute at home. Alverno hosts Benedictine on January 2, followed by a game with Lakeland at home on the 5th. After a quick stop to Madison for a date with Edgewood on the 8th of January, the Inferno will take on Concordia Wisconsin at 7 p.m. on January 10.
After hosting three of the first four games to open January, the middle stages of the month will see Alverno visit Rockford (January 12), Concordia Chicago (January 16), Lakeland (January 22), and Benedictine (January 24), with a home date against Dominican sandwiched in between on January 19.
Four of the next five will be back at Reiman Gymnasium as the month of January closes out with home matchups against Edgewood (January 26) and Illinois Tech (January 30). February kicks off with a visit to Aurora on the 2nd, before the team returns home to take on Marian on February 5 and close out the home slate with MSOE on February 9.
The regular season will come to a close on Wednesday, February 13 as the Inferno visit Wisconsin Lutheran for a 7 p.m. start.
The top-six teams following the conclusion of the regular season will qualify for the NACC Championship, with the winner of the six-team bracket earning the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship.
