MILWAUKEE, WIS.—Alverno College basketball (5-19, 2-17 NACC) battled against MSOE but fell by a final score of 68-52.
The Raiders got the contest going with a 6-2 run. Dani Hood connected on a jump shot attempt to slice the MSOE effort to 13-7. At the 1:24 mark, the Raiders converted on a layup to hold a 15-8 advantage. Dani Hood hit a layup attempt just before the buzzer as MSOE controlled a 15-12 lead into the second quarter.
A four point swing from Gabby Hood cut the MSOE lead to one to begin the quarter. Back-to-back three point field goals for the Raiders extended the MSOE effort to 23-16 forcing an Inferno timeout. Two layups for the Raiders just under the 1:30 mark gave MSOE the lead heading into halftime 34-23.
To begin the third quarter, both teams traded basket for basket. The Inferno connected on an 8-0 run to shrink the Raider lead to 43-39. Later, Mackenzie Mathies hit a three point field goal as the Raider lead to shrunk 46-42. MSOE held a slim 49-44 advantage going into the final quarter of play.
Alverno College continued to chip away at the Raider effort with a three point field goal from Mackenzie Mathies at 50-48. At the 4:34 mark, an MSOE three pointer propelled the Raider advantage to 57-49. MSOE held the Inferno scoreless the final three minutes of the game to take the victory 68-52.
Both Mackenzie Mathies and Dani Hood led the Inferno in scoring finishing with 16 points. Hood also tallied 6 rebounds. Gabby Hood collected 15 points and seven rebounds while senior Melissa Weyand recorded a season-high 13 rebounds.
Alverno College conclude the 2017-18 season on Saturday for Senior Day Feb. 17 at 7 p.m.
