MILWAUKEE -- The schedule and format of the inaugural Women's College Tipoff Tournament have been changed due to circumstances beyond the control of host Alverno College.
Early Thursday evening, Mount Mary College notified the tournament host that it would be unable to field a team for the weekend's tournament, and will not compete in the event.
In an effort to keep the tournament intact, and still provide two games to the remaining three teams, host Alverno College will compete in two games on Saturday. This will mark the first time in the program's history that the Inferno has played two basketball games on the same day.
The Inferno will open play at 1 p.m. versus St. Catherine University of St. Paul, Minn., and then play in the nightcap at 7 p.m. against Stephens College of Columbia, Mo.
St. Catherine and Stephens will square off on Sunday at 1 p.m. All three games of the now round-robin style tournament will take place at Alverno's Reiman Gymnasium.
Additionally the Inferno's game against Mount Mary next Tuesday, Nov. 20, has been cancelled. Alverno is currently in talks with other colleges and may fill the open slot on its schedule at a later date.
Live stats and video for all three tournament games will still be available via athletics.alverno.edu.
