MILWAUKEE – The Alverno softball team has announced its 40-game schedule for the upcoming 2020 season, beginning with its first 10 games in Florida for the fourth consecutive season.
This past season the Inferno finished with a 12-win campaign under the direction of first-year head coach Ben Lipson, who helped guide the team to its best start in program history.
Alverno will once again open the season with 10 games in the sunshine state as the Inferno will take part in 'The Spring Games' for the third consecutive season. In 2019, the Inferno went 7-3 in its season-opening Florida swing and will look to add to that win total this upcoming spring from March 8-14. The opponents and times of the games will be announced closer to the dates of competition.
The team will return home to Wisconsin and will open up the home portion of its schedule, when Alverno hosts Beloit for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. on the Alverno Softball Field. Conference play will follow a week later, when the Inferno visit the Falcons of Concordia Wisconsin on March 28, before returning home a day later to host Wisconsin Lutheran for a Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference doubleheader against the Warriors.
As the calendar flips forward to April, the team will head on the road to Appleton, Wisconsin to take on the Vikings for Lawrence for a mid-week doubleheader on the first day of the month.
Alverno returns home for conference action as the Inferno host the Cougars of Concordia Chicago on Saturday, April 4 before visiting Dominican a day later in suburban Chicago. A trip to non-conference Carroll will follow on Thursday, April 9 before a Saturday conference trip to Madison, Wisconsin to do battle with Edgewood on April 11.
Following the Easter Sunday holiday, the team returns home to take on Rockford for a Monday afternoon conference bout with the Regents. The next three series will take place away from home as Alverno visits defending league champion MSOE on April 15, followed by trips to Aurora on April 18, and Benedictine on April 19.
The regular season will come to a close with three-straight home doubleheaders beginning with non-conference Mount Mary on Tuesday, April 21. The Inferno will host Lakeland on the last Friday of the regular season on April 24, before hosting Marian a day later to close out the regular season on April 25.
The top six teams will qualify for the NACC Softball Championship, with the lone remaining team earning the league's bid to the 2020 NCAA Division III Softball Championship.
