MILWAUKEE – On Friday, the Alverno softball team announced its 2020 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference slate of games as the Inferno will head into its second season under the direction of head coach Ben Lipson.
Last season the Inferno had two conference wins and will look to build upon that total with a revamped roster heading into the upcoming campaign.
In 2020 the league slate will begin with a trip to the defending regular season champion Concordia Wisconsin, on Saturday, March 28. Last season the Inferno hosted the Falcons on the Alverno Softball Field in a doubleheader that spanned two days in early April.
The Inferno will play its next conference pair at home the following afternoon, when Wisconsin Lutheran makes its way to Alverno for a 12 p.m. first pitch.
As the calendar shifts to April, the Inferno will host Concordia Chicago at 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 4, followed by a trip to suburban Chicago for a league tilt with Dominican a day later.
On Saturday, April 11 the Inferno will head to Madison for a doubleheader with Edgewood at 12 p.m., before Easter Sunday on the 12th. The team will get right back to action after the holiday on Monday afternoon, when the Inferno host Rockford for a 3 p.m. start against the Regents.
The next three pairs of conference doubleheaders will all take place on the road beginning with a short trip to MSOE to take on the Raiders on April 15 with first pitch set for 3 p.m. Alverno heads to Aurora on Saturday, April 18 and Benedictine on Sunday, April 19 to wrap-up the road portion of the schedule.
The final four league games will take place on the last weekend of the regular season at home, when Alverno hosts Lakeland on Friday, April 24 at 3 p.m. before hosting Marian to wrap-up the season on Saturday, April 25 at 12 p.m.
The top six teams in the NACC Standings will qualify for the 2020 NACC Softball Championship, with the winner of the double-elimination tournament earning the leagues automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Softball Championship. Last season, MSOE won the league championship as the two seed, as the Raiders finished just one game shy of Concordia Wisconsin in the final regular season standings.
