Inferno Sweep Day Three of Spring Trip

CLERMONT, FLA. The Alverno College softball team (3-3, 0-0 NACC) swept day three of the 2018 spring trip in thrilling fashion requiring extra innings to get the victories against Houghton 7-6 and Concordia Moorehead 5-4. The Inferno kept Houghton scoreless for three straight innings while a flyout from Carina Jimenez in the bottom of the eighth inning of game two to seal the victory for Alverno. Kaitlynn Schmick shut down all momentum for Concordia Moorehead striking out two batters in the final frame.

  • 1st Inning: Ashlie Rossi singled to center to score Mackenzie Mathies to get the Inferno scoring on day three.
  • 3rd Inning: Ashlie Rossi doubled to left center to score Samantha Chapnick to double the Inferno lead 2-0.
  • 5th Inning: A single up the middle from Carina Jimenez tied the game at 3.
  • 7th Inning: Sam Korn doubled to once again tie the game at 4.
  • 8th Inning: Samantha Chapnick doubled to center and RBI as the Inferno tied the contest at 5.
  • 9th Inning: Andie Vandertie singled up the middle which allowed Dani Hood to score to knot the game at 6.
  • 9th Inning: A walk-off walk sealed the game for the Inferno 7-6.
