MILWAUKEE -- Kristin Holub tallied her 100th career hit Sunday afternoon, but host Alverno College dropped a doubleheader to Dominican University, 1-0 and 8-3, at Alverno Field.
Holub knocked a 2-2, one-out pitch to right-center field in the bottom of the fourth inning of game two to reach the milestone. The Lisle, Illinois native, who recorded her 99th hit in game one, became the 12th player in school history to accomplish the feat.
"It was awesome," said Alverno's first-year head coach Ryan Konitzer about his senior's accomplishment. "Kristin is the player that I wish I had for more than one year. She is the kind of player you can build your program around, the way she works. She's always willing to help out both on and off the field."
In the opening game, an Ali Woitovich RBI-single in the top of the third produced the lone run of the contest.
Cat Klostermann earned the complete-game shutout in the pitchers' duel while Olivia Schneider (5-11) allowed one run and six hits in 4.2 innings pitched and got the loss. Ashlie Rossi tossed 2.1 innings in relief for the Inferno.
The host team was limited to four hits in the one-run game led by Carina Jimenez' 2-for-3 effort in the batters' box.
After just 11 combined hits in the opener, the conference foes totaled 21 in game two. The Stars (27-9, 12-6 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference) had the slight edge in hits, 11 to 10, but took advantage of four Alverno errors as just two of the opponents' eight runs went down as earned.
Jimenez and Andie Vandertie collected RBI-hits while the other Inferno score came after a Dominican error.
Klostermann (10-3) went four innings for her second victory in the pitchers' circle while Rossi (5-13) was tagged with the loss in four innings and Schneider took on three innings of relief.
Alverno (10-24, 3-15 NACC) hosts its final home series of the season Friday versus Edgewood College. First pitch is at 3 p.m. and Holub, the lone senior on the team, will be honored between games.
