MILWAUKEE -- Megan Hernandez hit three home runs as Alverno College swept host Wisconsin Lutheran College in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Neumann Family Field.

The visiting Inferno (9-15, 2-6 NACC) took the opener, 4-3, in eight innings and then scored six runs in the final three innings of game two for a 10-4 victory for the team's first wins in league play.

In game one, Kaitlynn Johnson hit a two-out double in the top of the eighth and Samantha Chapnick followed with the go-ahead RBI-single up the middle for the one-run lead.

The Warriors (7-13, 4-4) twice had runners in scoring position in the final at-bat, but the Alverno defense held for the win. Chloe Fleming threw out a runner from center field attempting to score the game-tying run at home plate for the second out and Hernandez ended it with an unassisted putout at third to leave a pair of runners stranded.

Hernandez hit a solo homer in the second for the first run of the game followed in the third by a run on a misthrow by the Warrior catcher and Chapnick's first RBI to make it 3-0.

WLC evened the contests with three runs on three hits and an Inferno error on the bottom half of the third and both teams remained scoreless until Johnson scored off Chapnick's hit in the eighth.

Olivia Schneider got the win in the circle as she went the full eight innings allowing three runs, just two earned, while Wisconsin Lutheran's Abby Mahsen was tagged with the loss as she also went the distance.

Hernandez started out game two with a bang as she smashed a grand slam in the top of the first inning.

The Warriors scored four runs over the next four innings to tie the game but three straight Inferno hits to lead off the fifth by Carina Jimenez, Bailey Jedrzejewski and Andie Vandertie scored the go-ahead run and Johnson successfully squeezed home Jedrzejewski to make it 6-4.

Johnson and Chapnick each knocked home a run in the top of the seventh before Hernandez hit her second home run of the game -- third of the day -- to score the final two runs of the contest and collect her fifth and sixth RBIs. Hernandez became the sixth player in Alverno history to hit two homers in a game.

Schneider (5-7) again went the distance to earn her second win of the day and WLC's Kassie Guerrero picked up the loss.

Jedrzejewski scored three runs and hit 4-for-4 while Vandertie was 3-for-3 with a pair of runs scored.

Alverno returns to action Saturday at Lakeland University for its next doubleheader. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. up in Plymouth.
