MILWAUKEE -- Alverno College lost a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader to visiting Concordia University Wisconsin Saturday afternoon at Alverno Field.
The Inferno dropped game one 10-0, before the team let a 5-0 lead slip away in the 9-5 game two defeat.
Alverno was unable to get to the Falcons' starter Emily Brekke, who surrendered just two hits over the first four innings of the opening game.
Ashlie Rossi connected for a two-out hit in the bottom of the first and Samantha Chapnick had a leadoff single in the second for the only two base hits for the Inferno. Kaitlynn Johnson was the only other Alverno batter to reach as she did so via walk in the final inning.
CUW (16-6, 5-1 NACC) had 12 hits in the contest including a pair of home runs.
In game two the Inferno (7-15, 0-6) posted a four-run fourth inning for the team's first lead of the day.
The Inferno kept the offense rolling into the fifth with three more hits including an RBI-single by Rossi. Rossi, who had pitched five scoreless innings in the circle, tried to stretch her base hit into a double but was tagged out at second base and suffered an injury on the play which ended the junior right-hander's day.
With the Alverno starter out, the Falcons took advantage and put up seven runs in the sixth and added two in the seventh while the Inferno offense couldn't muster any more runs in the final two frames.
Alverno begins a stretch of three straight road series tomorrow at Wisconsin Lutheran College. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Neumann Family Field.
