BELOIT, Wisconsin -- After a heartbreaking 1-0 game-one loss, Alverno College bounced back for a 5-3 triumph to split the series with host Beloit College Tuesday evening at Strong Field.
Down 3-1 entering the fourth inning, the Inferno's Kaitlynn Johnson scored on a Buccaneer error before Sidney Behlendorf took home plate on a double steal as Becca Skrobis swiped second base to even the score at 3-3.
Rossi entered the pitcher's circle in the bottom of the inning and closed the door on the hosts to earn her first save of the season.
Olivia Schneider (3-5) earned the win as she scattered four hits and three runs over six innings of work.
Johnson tripled in the top of the second to score Samantha Chapnick for the game's first run before Beloit went ahead with three runs in the bottom of the third.
In the opener, Rossi (4-8) was on the losing end of a pitchers' duel as Alyssa Boltik got the shutout victory.
The Bucs had just three hits through the first six innings before they doubled their offensive output in the final frame including Alex Kohn's walk-off hit to end the contest.
Rossi had two hits in game one to lead the visitors' offense, including her first career triple.
The nightcap win snapped a seven-game skid and put the Inferno at 7-13 on the season while Beloit is now 4-18.
After the quick nonconference road series, Alverno returns home Saturday for Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play versus Concordia University Wisconsin. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Alverno Field.
