MILWAUKEE -- Alverno College dropped both ends of a home doubleheader to Benedictine University Sunday afternoon at Alverno Field.

The visiting Eagles (12-6, 3-1 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference) won the opener, 8-0, and took the nightcap, 12-1, from the Inferno (6-12, 0-4 NACC).

Benedictine held just a 2-0 lead entering the fourth inning using a pair of Alverno errors to plate the unearned runs. The visitors then connected for eight hits and six runs in the top of the fourth.

The Inferno was unable to answer and tallied just three hits in game one and stranded the three runners on base.

Andie Vandertie finally got the hosts on the board with a single up the middle that scored Samantha Chapnick who led off the first inning of game two with a well-placed hit down the right field line.

Despite three hits in the opening inning -- Mackenzie Mathies also reached on an infield hit -- Alverno managed just one more the rest of the contest. Adria Bollendorf made the most of her pinch-hit appearance with a single up the middle in the bottom of the fifth.

Eight Inferno runners were stranded in the game while the Eagles score their 12 runs over the final three frames to secure the series sweep.

Alverno takes a break from league play and looks to snap its current six-game skid as it visits Beloit College Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
