MILWAUKEE -- Host Alverno College was unable to contain defending Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference champion Aurora University in the league-opening series for both teams.
The visiting Spartans (11-5, 2-0 NACC) won the games 9-1 and 13-3 over the Inferno (6-10, 0-2) Saturday afternoon at Alverno Field.
In the opener, Alverno plated the first run of the contest on a Megan Hernandez sacrifice fly to center field in the bottom of the second. Carina Jimenez scored on the fly out after leading off the inning with an outfield single.
Aurora answered back with a pair of runs in the top of the third and then tacked on seven runs on five hits and a pair of Inferno errors in the fifth to close out the scoring.
The Spartans kept the offense rolling with eight runs in the first inning to open game two. The visitors added two in the second before Alverno plated three in the bottom half.
Aurora got the runs back over the next two innings while the Inferno was unable to score again.
Alverno looks to bounce back from its current skid as it hosts Benedictine University Sunday at 12 p.m.
