NAPLES, Florida -- Alverno College was on both sides of two shutouts to earn a split on the team's final day of the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic Saturday at North Collier Regional Park.

The Inferno won the day's opener, 1-0, over the University of Pittsburg at Bradford before a 10-0 setback to Salem State University to close out the 10-game trip at 4-6.

Ashlie Rossi pitched a one-hit gem versus the Panthers (4-5) for her fifth-career shutout with an efficient 77 pitches. She gave up the lone hit in the first inning and walked only one batter to lead off the sixth. That batter reached third base, but the right-hander forced a groundout to end the threat and retired the side in order in the seventh.

In the top of the third, Mackenzie Mathies accounted for the game-winning run as she reached base on an infield single and was knocked home via Andie Vandertie's RBI-single up the middle.

Pitt-Bradford's Cassidy Lewis was tagged with the loss as she surrendered one run and four hits over seven innings in the pitchers' duel with Rossi, who improved to 3-4 on the season.

The Inferno swiped six bags in the victory, the second time this week the team accomplished the feat, which is just one shy of the single-game school record.

Alverno allowed 10 runs on nine hits and committed four errors in the loss to the Vikings (2-1).

Just three Inferno batters collected hits and had three reach base via walk. In the bottom of the third Alverno had runners on second and third base but was unable to cash in on its best scoring opportunity of the game.

Olivia Schneider took the loss in the circle, allowing five hits and five runs (two earned) with a pair of strikeouts.

Vandertie and Megan Hernandez hit successfully in both games of the day.

Next up for Alverno is the home opener on Sunday, March 19 versus Robert Morris University-Springfield. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. at Alverno Field.
