NAPLES, Florida -- Alverno College lost both games on its opening day of the 2017 season Monday in the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic at North Collier Regional Park.

The Inferno dropped the morning contest, 5-2, to Albion College and the afternoon game, 6-1, to Clark University.

Against the Britons (3-3), things started out bright for Alverno as Ashlie Rossi singled home Samantha Chapnick in the bottom of the first for the game's first score.

Albion put up three unearned runs the following inning on three hits and a pair of Inferno errors.

The Britons added single scores in the fourth and sixth innings for a 6-1 lead before a Kristin Holub double plated Carina Jimenez for the final score.

Holub and Rossi tallied two hits apiece, while four Albion hitters did the same.

The Cougars (3-2) jumped all over the Inferno in the day's second game scoring four runs in the opening inning on three hits and an error.

Alverno (0-2) got a run back in the third as Chloe Fleming crossed home safely on a wild pitch after she led off the inning with a walk, but Clark tacked on two runs in the fourth while both teams were kept off the board in the last three innings.

Holub recorded her second multi-hit game of the day to lead the offense.

Olivia Schneider struck out seven in her season debut yet picked up the loss, while the Cougars' Sami West fanned 15 Inferno batters in the win.

Alverno returns to action tomorrow for a pair versus Geneva College and Elms College. First pitch is slated for 9 a.m. Eastern at CenturyLink Sports Complex in Fort Myers.
