ROSEMONT, Illinois -- Alverno College lost a pair of games to host Dominican University Sunday afternoon, 3-1 and 5-0.
The Inferno trailed 3-0 heading into the top of the seventh and made things interesting after Olivia Schneider's base hit scored Chloe Fleming for the visitors' first run of the game with the bases still loaded.
But after a Stars' pitching change, the next two Alverno batters were retired, including a game-ending double play.
Despite outhitting Dominican, 9-6, the Inferno stranded 10 base runners in the opener, while the hosts left just three. Samantha Chapnick had a game-best two hits to lead the visitors at the plate.
In game two, the Inferno had similar success reaching base, but left nine runners on after six hits and three reaches via walk. Andie Vandertie led all batters with three hits, while Chapnick, Alexis Botsford and Carina Jimenez recorded hits in both games of the doubleheader.
The sweep drops Alverno to 13-23 overall (4-14 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference) while Dominican improved to 23-11 (13-5 NACC).
Next up is a NACC doubleheader at Edgewood College Friday at 1 p.m.
