MILWAUKEE -- Alverno College closed out nonconference play with a pair of convincing wins in a doubleheader sweep of visiting Maranatha Baptist University Thursday evening at Alverno Field.

The Inferno (13-19) defeated the Sabercats (4-14) by scores of 9-1 and 23-0 for the twin-bill sweep. Both games ended on the run rule, game one in six innings and game two in five.

Olivia Schneider allowed just two hits and picked up the win in the opener, while Ashlie Rossi surrendered just three hits in the nightcap to earn her third shutout of the season.

The Alverno offense totaled 23 hits in the doubleheader, 10 of which were for extra bases.

Rossi led the team with six hits on the day including four doubles and a home run for 13 total bases and five RBIs.

Carina Jimenez and Mackenzie Mathies tallied five hits each while Mary Kate Sulikowski was 4-for-4 and batted in four runs.

Andie Vandertie connected for her first-collegiate homer -- a grand slam -- in game two and led the Inferno with six RBIs on the day.

Alverno completes its current 10-game homestand Saturday as it hosts Concordia University Chicago at 12 p.m.
