MILWAUKEE -- Host Alverno College lost both ends of a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader in the final inning of each game to visiting Lakeland College Saturday afternoon at Alverno Field.

The Muskies (12-12, 4-6 NACC) scored four runs in the top of the eighth inning to take game one 5-1 and then scored five in the top of the seventh to win game two 7-2.

It was the second consecutive day the Inferno (10-18, 3-9) played in an extra-inning game and fifth time this season. Alverno won the first two extended ballgames this season but has lost the last three.

Bailey Jedrzejewski knocked in the game-tying run in the bottom of the fourth for the Inferno in the opener to score Kristin Holub.

The teams traded zeroes the next three innings until Lakeland plated five runs in the eighth including the go-ahead run on a fielding error by Alverno.

In game two, three straight Inferno hits with two outs in the bottom of the first pulled the hosts within one, as Olivia Schneider singled to right-center field to score Carina Jimenez.

Alexis Botsford doubled in the fifth to plate Mackenzie Mathies and tie the game at 2-2, but despite runners at the corners with one out, the Inferno batters were unable to connect for a base hit and earn their first lead of the day.

The Muskies took advantage of Alverno's fielding miscues in the seventh and scored five for the series sweep.

Alverno hosts its third consecutive doubleheader Sunday against Marian University. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
