MILWAUKEE -- A six-game skid was snapped as Alverno College defeated host Milwaukee School of Engineering 10-5 in game two of a doubleheader Wednesday evening.
The Inferno (9-15, 2-6 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference) connected for 14 hits and scored the most runs since opening weekend's 11-9 11-inning victory over University of Wisconsin-Superior.
Carina Jimenez batted 4-for-4 and hit her first-career home run in the top of the second inning which gave Alverno a 2-1 lead.
The Raiders (4-10, 2-4 NACC) evened the score in the bottom of the inning but Alverno scored seven runs over the next three innings and added their 10th run of the game in the seventh to put the game out of the hosts' reach.
Rossi (5-5) threw a career-best eight strikeouts as she picked up the complete-game victory.
In the opener, the Inferno trailed 3-1 heading into the seventh inning as back-to-back hits by Rossi and Olivia Schneider pulled the visitors within a run, 3-2.
Bailey Jedrzejewski followed with a single up the middle to put runners at the corners, but the next three batters were unable to send Schneider home for a game-tying score and MSOE took game one, 3-2.
In addition to her team-leading two hits at the plate, Schneider (4-10) went the full game in the circle as she struck out nine.
Holub added an RBI-single in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game at 1-1, but the Raiders retook the lead in the bottom half of the inning.
After 14 straight road games, Alverno finally returns home for a NACC doubleheader versus Wisconsin Lutheran College Friday. First pitch at Alverno Field is scheduled for 3 p.m.
